Stripping

Border Terriers, like all rough coated Terriers, have a doubled coat, consisting of the hard overcoat and the smooth undercoat. They have to be stripped at least two times a year. You can find a detailed stripping information in the book "Border Terriers Today" of Anne Roslin-Williams. To get an impression of what is stripping: here are some photos of Rainbow Warrior Elwood ("Woody") at the stripping process.

"Woody" comes to us for stripping

"Woody" can hardly see anything

Definately time for stripping

You start at the croup; with thumb and index finger the old overcoat is pulled off

The differently coloured undercoat is visible

The left ear before and after stripping

Half of the head is stripped; now you can see the outlines again

Little by little the whole body is stripped

The tail has to get the form of a carrot after stripping

Around the genital and the anus you have to use the scissors (carefully!)

A clean "backsite"

Also around the paws and between the pads you have to use the scissors

A not stripped and a stripped foreleg

The claws of the forepaws are cut (don't forget the spurs)

The claws of the hindpaws are cut

Two hours later and a lot of hair less

Woody's head looks "Bordertypical" again

Woody is a handsome boy

Good-bye Woody, till next time
